Deliverance From

UNBELIEF

By   Todd A. Melfe

Why a message on deliverance from unbelief? Because there is a growing need, to turn whole-heartedly back to God, back to faith and trust in God. What is unbelief? It is the opposite of faith, it is lack of trust in God and his Holy Word. Now I know what some of you are thinking, and that is, how can we as believers have unbelief, but before you click out of this message, read on, for then you will understand why the Holy Spirit is concerned about the state of His people.

So let’s start this lesson by laying some fundamental ground work.

ROMANS 10:17

17           So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

This is what God is saying through his word, faith cometh by hearing, we have to be in a position to hear, we have to give God a chance to speak his word to us. Many hardly, if ever read their Bibles, or attend church on a regular basis, so these folks hear very little word, how is God going to speak to them, much less inspire them, or reveal himself unto them. Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God, sounds simple enough, but the prophets warned what could and would happen too many, if their hearts were not in the right place.

MATTHEW 13:14,15

14    And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

15    For this people's heart is waxed gross, and [their] ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with [their] eyes, and hear with [their] ears, and should understand with [their] heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

Another good illustration found in God’s word is the parable of the sower.

MATTHEW 13:18-23

18    Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

19    When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth [it] not, then cometh the wicked [one], and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

  20    But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;

21    Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

22    He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

23    But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth [it]; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

Notice first off, in vs. 19, we have those who initially hear the word, but have no understanding, the root Greek here also means to consider, to get into the proper mindset. This is a lesson in itself, in that we have to get into the presence of God, to truly worship and receive from the Lord. This is why there is praise and worship in Church services, the music is not to entertain, but rather to bring about an atmosphere of worship, where God can come down and reveal himself unto us, through the anointed word of the Lord. We also should never engage in heavy Bible reading and study, without first praying, and getting in the Spirit.

Vs. 20 & 21 deal with those who hear, and receive, but do not care for that which they have just received, we should treat the revealed word like a precious gift, and safeguard it!

Vs.  22, are the ones who go good for a while, but lose focus, thus taking their eyes off Jesus they begin to sink, in the deceptions of the world. As it is written ‘Ye did run well, what did hinder you?’

Vs. 23 These are the believers who received with the right heart and spirit from the beginning, the word is a seed planted, and if cared for will grow, and become fruitful in the life of the believer.

So Faith cometh by hearing, we must by all means hear!

REVELATION 2:11

11              He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches;

The second half of Romans 10:17 is, ‘hearing by the word of God’. So in order to have faith we first must hear, and then we must hear by the word of God. But remember the word of God is as a seed planted in the heart of the believer, and the Law of the harvest is whatever is sown, that is what will be harvested, every seed will bring forth of its own kind. So if the pure word of God is sown into the heart of the believer then it can produce only one thing, faith! But if the word is tainted, or corrupted it will not produce pure faith, but the truth of God’s word will be distorted.

GALATIANS 5:9

A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

My old pastor used to say; ‘the devil will give you a whole lake of truth, just to give you one ounce of poison.’, and how true that is, you see that is why the Lord warns us to keep only to his word. The Spirit of God will only come to the Word of God. Consider some of the following scriptures.

ROMANS 3:4

‘…let God be true, but every man a liar;…’

MARK 7:13

12              Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

MATTHEW 15:9

9    But in vain they do worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men.

REVELATION 22:18

18    For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

REVELATION 22:19

18           And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book.

From these passages of scripture, it is obvious that God’s Word is sacred, and it should be…

JOHN 1:1-3,14

1       In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2    The same was in the beginning with God.

3    All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

14    And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

 If the word is God, then it is Holy and Sacred, and to mix it, is to distort and pervert. The great truth here is that when we received Christ into our hearts, we also must receive his word, they cannot be truly separated, because they are one and the same. Listen to what the Apostle said;

II CORINTHIANS 11:2

2                  For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present [you as] a chaste virgin to Christ.

Here Paul is speaking to the Church, which in scripture is always referred to in the feminine gender, we are espoused to Christ, and He is the Word! This only reinforces the fact that we need the pure unadulterated word of God, and from that comes Faith.

So to summarize this lesson, we know by the revelation of God’s Word that any thing outside of the Truth of the Word of God not only distorts faith, but greatly endangers our service and worship unto the Lord. There are many who are living by doctrines and traditions that are contrary to God’s word, these cannot and will not produce faith, but causes UNBELIEF. So to get doubt and unbelief out of our lives we need to get back into the Bible, find out what the Lord has to say, and while we are at it, we would like to make one last point. We have heard many times over the years people saying ‘I will take the words of Jesus, but the rest of the Bible is man’s writings.’ Here is what the Bible speaks about such beliefs.

I CORINTHIANS 14:36-38

36       What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

37    If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

38    But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.

II PETER 1:20,21

20    Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

21    For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost.

So here, we see that both the Apostle Peter and the Apostle Paul were letting people know that even though man is the scribe, God is still the Author! Hallelujah! What must we do? Get back into the true unadulterated word of God, begin afresh to believe every word of God, shun traditions and doctrines of men that are contrary to Bible teachings, no matter how good it sounds. Remember give everything the Word test, for the spirit and the word must agree, the Holy Ghost will not and cannot inspire someone to speak, act or do anything contrary to God’s word, if he did then he would be working against Himself, and a house divided will not stand. If you have doubted or rejected God’s word, or a portion of his word ask forgiveness, plead the blood of Jesus, and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you into understanding, and wisdom.

PSALMS 1:1-3

1       Blessed [is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2    But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3    And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
