The Power of Word’s
PROVERBS 18:21 ¶ Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue:
One of the smallest members of our body is the most important; this is exemplified by the example set forth
by the Lord Jesus.
A. The Word
itself is like a seed, sent forth or set into motion it begins to grow, in its
pure form it can only produce of itself. This is seen in God’s law of reproduction.
I. The Law
of Reproduction KJV Genesis 1:11-12,24,25
11. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit
after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
12. And
the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself,
after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
24. And
God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth
after his kind: and it was so.
25. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and
every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
Here we can
see that every seed would bring forth of its own kind. In the pure sense this is God’s law of Reproduction.
II. The Law
of Reaping and Sowing. KJV Galatians 6:7,8
7. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also
reap.
8. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth
to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
This also is
a general law of God, here the scripture speaks of sowing to the flesh and spirit. We can only hope to get in return what
we put forth.
Mt. 13:18-23 – In the
parable of the sower, Jesus illustrates the seed being planted in various conditions, and what the outcome of each condition
would bring. We as children of God must prepare out hearts to be a bedding ground for the seed of God’s Word.
B. There are
two main areas we would like to address.
(1). The Word Christ Jesus, the spiritual implications.
(2). The Words that we both hear and speak, the spiritual implications.
I.
THE WORD CHRIST JESUS
a. Jesus himself, as the scriptures declare is the WORD, the Word made flesh as
Declared in Jn. 1:1,2,14
this Word is taken from the Greek Word Logos,
which
Means “thought or concept, expression”.
KJV John 1:1-2,14
1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God.
2. The same was in the beginning with God.
14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among
us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
b. Jesus was the expression of God, Heb. 1:3,
3. Who being the brightness of his glory, and the
express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat
down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
Jesus said “when you have seen me You have seen
the Father” Jn.14:8,9,10. Outside of natural outward features, little is known about a person until they speak, there voice
is a expression of their being, or their personality and make –up. God was somewhat mysterious in times past, but chose
to reveal Himself through His Son (Word). Heb.1:1, 2
1. God, who at sundry
times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2. Hath in these last
days, spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
This is why when we want to know something about God,
we should read and hear his Word; it is the mind and thoughts of God! Jesus said
the Word’s He spoke were spirit and life. Jn. 6:63, Heb. 2:1
KJV John 6:63
63. It is the spirit
that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
KJV
Hebrews 2:1-2
1. Therefore we ought
to give the more earnest heed to the things, which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
2. For if the word
spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;
c.
Just as Jesus was the revelation of God in the flesh, we the Church should
be
and will become the revelation of Jesus Christ, the Word bride,
the true Church will become the expression of Christ, taking on the nature of Christ. Jesus was the expression of God, manifested
in the flesh, coming forth from within, we too as the Church, the body will be the expression of what is within us, Christ
Jesus the hope of Glory!
II.
THE WORDS THAT WE BOTH HEAR AND SPEAK
Just as Jesus is the Word of God, the expression of God, the word
is a seed, in this case the seed or germ of life, Jesus said ‘the words that I speak they are spirit and life’
Jn 6:63
As mentioned earlier the Law of reproduction states that every seed
would bring forth of its own kind, so the word spoken and received is as a seed planted.
James 3:2 states:
“For in many things we offend
all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.”
· Perfect comes from the
Grk. Word teleios; which means mature.
·
According to James, the tongue is the last member we are able to bridle.
·
So what comes forth from the tongue will speak volumes.
·
The words we speak can have a profound effect on not only us as individuals,
but on others as well.
·
Much can be said about our conversation, our Lord Jesus was very explicit
about this;
·
KJV Matthew 5:37
But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
·
Our Lord went on to say that every idle
word that men shall speak, they shall give account for in the Day of Judgment! Mt. 12:36
·
There are literally billions of words going through our atmosphere every
minute of the day, in the form of radio or television signals.
·
Likewise when we speak a word, we also send it into motion, and once in
motion it will go on for eternity till the day of judgment.
MATTHEW 12:37
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt
be condemned.
II.
THE WORDS THAT WE BOTH HEAR AND SPEAK – continued
If there is so much power in the tongue, then how important is it
that we guard ourselves in all conversation?
KJV Ephesians 4:29
29. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which
is good tothe use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
KJV Philippians 1:27
27. Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ:
that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one
mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
KJV Colossians 3:8
8. But now ye also put off
all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
KJV Philemon 1:6
6. That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging
of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
KJV 1 Peter 1:15
15.
But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
COLOSSIANS 2:8
8 Beware
lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and
not after Christ.
We Hear the Word of God
We Receive the Word
of God RESULTS IN SELF EDIFICATION
The Word in turn produces
faith.
We keep the Word of God
We speak the word of God ENCOURAGEMEN TO OURSELVES OTHERS
We speak the word of Faith
We walk in the spirit
We speak only as Christ EDIFICATION AND
HEALING FOR THE BODY
We are totally obedient
We fail to keep the Word
We allow leaven to enter in
We speak negatively OUT OF GOD’S
WILL WE TEARDOWN &DESTROY
We speak falsely
We become disobedient
